Twenty-two squares, and the one with the fountain
Savannah, Georgia · 2 nights · Oct · Nov · Mar · Apr · May · up to 8
Savannah's grid is built around squares, and the whole city is designed to be crossed on foot under live oaks. Two nights is enough — this is a walking trip, not an itinerary. The fountain in Forsyth Park is the one everyone photographs and it is busy accordingly. Go on a weekday if the date allows it, and go early.
The ending
A white iron fountain under Spanish moss, at the top of a long avenue of oaks, with the light coming down the avenue rather than onto it.
That is Forsyth Park Fountain. See how private it is and when it’s open, or build the rest of the trip around it.

Two nights only?
The historic district is about one square mile. A third night is a Tybee Island day, which is a different trip with a different ending.
Will we have the fountain to ourselves?
Not at midday, and not at a weekend. Forsyth is the park Savannah takes its visitors to. The avenue of oaks running up to it is long enough that you can see who is already there before you commit, which is the practical answer.
